FLEMING COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Fleming County continues to buzz as they watch MaKenzie Thomas advance on NBC’s “The Voice.”

Tonight, she competes in the Top 8.

Here community is coming together for a watch party at the high school.

In Los Angeles, Thomas is a star in the making.

Two thousand miles away, back in the halls of Fleming County High School, her classmates and teachers cannot wait for Monday nights to roll around so they can cheer on one of their own.

“She was one of those students you knew was going to go some place with her voice,” said choir teacher Sheila Lamb.

The top eight contestants go head-to-head Monday night, and Thomas’ “fan club” will be watching together at the high school.

“We are just going to cheer her on,” said classmate Shelby Ison. “We are going to listen to ‘The Voice’ program and cheer and be supportive of her.”

Her classmates said they admired the standout performer from the small town of Wallingford. Now seeing her compete at a high level in the national spotlight is giving them hope that no dream is too large.

“‘The Voice’ has opened so many doors for her, and it’s so eye-opening to everyone that a small-town girl like MaKenzie can do these things,” said classmate Peyton Hoskins.
