LOUISVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) — A former Louisville Catholic priest who was convicted of molesting two teenage boys has died, according to church officials.

In a statement, the Archdioces of Louisville said James R. Schook died Saturday at age 71.

“In praying for the repose of his soul, we also pray for the continued healing for his victims and for all victim survivors of childhood sexual abuse,” the Archdioces’ statement says.

Schook was pastor of St. Ignatius Martyr Parish in Louisville in 2009 when he was placed on leave after the church received information about the abuse. Schook eventually was indicted and convicted of seven felony counts of child abuse.

According to the Archdioces, Schook then was permanently removed from ministry.
