Lexington Companies Experiencing Holiday Worker Shortage

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– The holiday shopping season kicks off Thursday with Black Friday sales starting early, but some Lexington companies are struggling to meet the needs of all of those shoppers.

Alison Meyer is the owner of Two Chicks & Company Boutique in Lexington. She says that Black Friday is the most important time of the year at her store. She hires some temporary help for the season, and she hasn’t had a problem finding workers, but many Lexington companies have.

“We have over 200 opening currently. We’ve had several clients raise their pay rates two times this year,” said Tom Braker.

Braker is the franchise owner of Remedy Intelligent Staffing. He said logistics and shipping companies that are having the hardest time filling positions.

“We’ve never seen it this busy this time of year and I really believe it’s just the economy and there’s a shortage of people,” he said.

He said that means it is a great time to be applying as many employers will work to fit the needs of the worker.

“A lot of these companies are just trying to get stuff out the door before the holiday,” he said.

Braker said that temporary jobs often turn into permanent ones.
