KSP: Man Arrested In Son’s Murder

KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– Kentucky State Police have arrested a man and charged him with murder in the death of his son, who was found in a burnt residence with a gunshot wound.

Charles Phipps, 33, was found inside a burnt home on May 11, 2017. The autopsy revealed that Phipps had a gunshot wound in his torso.

On October 31, 2018, a KSP detective was told that the father of Charles Phipps had shot and killed his own son. A witness said thatPaul Phipps, 60, lived next to his son and KSP says that on the night of May 11, Paul walked over to his son’s home to recover his 9mm pistol when a physical altercation occurred.

KSP reports that information was given to the detective that the father was gone 15-20 minutes and then multiple gunshots were heard. Paul returned back to his residence and stated his son’s home was fully engulfed with fire and smoke, according to KSP.

On November 5, 2018, a search warrant was executed at Paul’s residence and KSP says they recovered a severely burned 9mm pistol in Paul’s bedroom closet.

Paul Phipps was arrested November 19, 2018 at 7:15 p.m. He was charged with one count of murder and was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.

The case is still under investigation.
