GARRARD COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)–  People in one Garrard County community are stranded because a bridge that was taken out will not be replaced for months.

A foreman with a Garrard County road crew tells LEX 18 that he did his job when he removed the damaged bridge. Kenny Kinnard with Garrard County Road Works says that the contractor told him to go ahead and demolish the bridge. Kinnard tells LEX 18 that the contractor has not started working on the replacement bridge and now, several people who live in the Teaterville Road area are stranded.

The road crew is patching up another bridge, but that doesn’t help the folks that live in the area.

Residents say that if there was an emergency, they would have no way out and first responders would have no way in.

Frustration is also setting in for the road crews who say they’re being blamed for something that is not their fault.

“It’s not my fault. I hate it for the people! I tried to build them another road in, dropped a bunch of gravel down on the other side of the mountain, but there’s too much mud. Just can’t do anything with all the mud,” said Kenny Kinnard with Garrard County Road Works.

There is a road that leads to the area, but it is not passable when the water levels are as high as they’ve been.
