BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio (WLWT)– An Ohio teen, who was shot and killed in July, saved a life after she died, as an organ donor.

Police are still trying to figure out who killed Sydney Garcia-Tovar.

Tovar died in July after she was shot in the head on Wildbranch Road in Fairfield Township.

In her death, she saved a life.

“The day that we got the call that I actually had the heart was the 25th of July and I got it July 26th,” Savanah Fawbush said.

Fawbush, of Louisville, Ky., was diagnosed with cancer and her heart was damaged with chemotherapy.

“We definitely feel that Sydney chose Savanah herself to have her heart,” said Savanah’s mother, Samantha Fawbush.

The families now share a bond.

“She’ll be my heart daughter for life and I plan on stealing her every now and again when I’m allowed,” Stephanie Garcia-Tovar said.

As Tovar’s heart keeps Fawbush alive, it provides hope someone will use theirs and help solve the case.

“She didn’t deserve what happened to her. She was a beautiful girl,” Samantha Fawbush said.

The case is still being investigated.

Police ask anyone with information to call 513-887-4406.
