MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Residents in a neighborhood in Berea were startled by gunshots Saturday after 11 p.m.

The sound caused people in the neighborhood to jolt up in their chairs.

“I turned the TV on and I was looking at my tablet and all of a sudden I heard pew, pew, pew, pew, in succession and I knew they were gunshots. I couldn’t really tell where they were coming from,” said Joni Miller.

Berea police said someone fired a gun at the Shell Station on Prospect Street and then drove off. The gas station was closed when the shots were fired.

The glass on the front door of the gas station was shattered, as well as the lottery ticket holder inside on the counter. There are bullet holes in one of the freezers, and there are even holes in a strip of lottery tickets.

Miller said the neighborhood is generally safe.

Berea police have opened an investigation and spoken to neighbors to try and learn more. If you know anything or have any surveillance video that might be helpful, Berea police ask that you let them know.
