FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) — The 2019 race for governor of Kentucky appears to be getting a little more crowded.

State Rep. Rocky Adkins is set to make what he’s billing as a “special announcement” on Wednesday in Morehead.

While Adkins’ camp has not tipped its hand on what the announcement will entail, the House minority leader previously has said he was considering a run for the state’s highest office.

In addition, the Sandy Hook Democrat filed preliminary paperwork with the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance to run for governor. On that paperwork, he lists Louisville attorney Stephanie Horne as his running mate.

Fellow Democrat Andy Beshear, Kentucky’s current attorney general, announced his bid for governor back in July.

Both men are hoping to square off against Republican Gov. Matt Bevin, who said in August he plans to seek reelection. However, Bevin has yet to file official paperwork to make another run.
