GEORGETOWN, Ky. (LEX 18) – The Georgetown Fire Department says that a  firefighter battling a degenerative lung condition has had a successful transplant.

Less than 24 hours after a prayer service was held in his honor, Johnnie Jacobs found out that there were a donated set of healthy lungs waiting on him.

Jacobs worked for the Georgetown Fire Department for more than two decades, working his way to the rank of battalion chief.

The fire department posted an update on Johnnie Thursday afternoon.

“After a successful transplant surgery last night, Johnnie’s sats and numbers are doing well and doctors hope to have him awake and alert soon. Please continue to keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers during the recovery process as it is still a hard road ahead,”
