(LEX 18) — Congressman Andy Barr’s victory over Amy McGrath gained national headlines and even a mention from the president Wednesday as he discussed his impact on certain races.

“It was a very very tough race in Kentucky, and he was down quite a bit, and I went there and we had a tremendous, very successful — some of you were at that rally — and he won that race,” President Donald Trump said Wednesday during a freewheeling news conference.

On Wednesday, Barr said he was thankful for the high-profile visits, but that wasn’t the only key to victory.

“It was part of it, but also you can’t underestimate the grassroots nature of our campaign as well,” said Barr.

He also added it was the strong economy he wants to continue with a change in U.S. House leadership.

“We should look at the problems facing our country, whether it’s the need to invest in infrastructure, rebuild our country, and our roads and our bridges,” said Barr.

He said he would not support reinstalling Democrat Nancy Pelosi as Speaker, but acknowledged that is not up to him.

Barr said the best way to bring America together is to focus on solving problems.
