LEXINGTON, KY. (LEX 18)—All Lextran routes will be free of charge on Tuesday to increase access to polling locations for the general election.

The Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement estimated that nearly 15 million people between the ages of 18 and 29 didn’t vote in the 2016 Election because of a lack of transportation to their polling location.

“Transportation can be a barrier for some people when it comes to getting to their polling location,” said Carrie Butler, Lextran General Manager. “By providing free rides on Election Day we offer a solution to remove that barrier for our community and empower more people to go vote.”

Riders can use the address of the polling location to plan a free trip via Lextran.
