FRANKFORT, Ky. (WPSD) — Open enrollment for Kentucky’s health care marketplace starts Thursday for 2019 plans.

Open enrollment runs from Nov. 1 through Dec. 15 for coverage beginning Jan. 1, 2019.

Many people who already have plans through the marketplace will be automatically re-enrolled if they don’t want to make changes to their plans, but all are encouraged to check their enrollment status and coverage options.

The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services says existing policyholders and potential new enrollees can learn more about their plan options at events being held across the state. At those community outreach events, Kentucky Health Benefit Exchange staff will help answer questions and guide people through the process.

Around 80 percent of people enrolled in the Kentucky exchange qualify for tax credits or subsidies to offset insurance premium increases, the cabinet says.

For more information about the KHBE events, find someone near you who can help with the process, and more information about the exchange, click here. Kentuckians can also call the state-based call center at 800-318-2596. Enrollees can also find information through the national site, healthcare.gov, or the national call center at 800-318-2596. To view 2019 options on the exchange, visit the federal site and use the shopping tool. New users have to create a user account and fill out an online application for the federal marketplace.
