Woman Killed In Russell Springs Parking Lot

RUSSELL SPRINGS, Ky. (LEX 18) — Police confirm that one woman is dead after a shooting in a shopping parking lot.

Russell Springs Police Chief Joseph Irvin tells LEX 18 News that around 3 p.m., a man approached a woman in the Key Village Shopping Center parking lot.

Chief Irvin says the man shot her three times, hitting her twice. She later died at a local hospital.

The victim was identified as Brandy R. Johnson from Russell Springs.

Police say the suspect, Jason Clark from Jamestown, fled the scene of the shooting, and was located in his car by State Police about an hour later.

KSP says they conducted a traffic stop several miles south of Jamestown on Highway 127, and put Clark in custody.

Clark is not charged with the shooting at this moment, but he was taken to the Russell County Detention Center.

Police are still trying to determine the motive of the shooting, and if there was any connection between the alleged shooter and victim.

The owner of Coe’s Steakhouse told us that Brandy worked at the restaurant for three years, and was a loyal employee. He told LEX 18 that the mother was on her lunch break when she was shot.
