UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Travis Collins. His exact cause of death is pending autopsy results.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – The Fayette County Coroner says a man is dead after falling somewhere between 14-16 feet down the elevator shaft from a construction site in downtown Lexington.

The incident happened on E. Main Street. The victim’s name has not been released but officials say he worked with a company called Air Control that’s based in Lexington.

The coroner is in the process of notifying his family. He tells LEX 18 the man was a father in his 30s.  OSHA is expected to take over the investigation.

“We found him in the elevator shaft. It could have been a medical reason that he fell in the shaft, it could have been an accident that he fell into the shaft, it could have been, I don’t know, but we are hoping that the autopsy will help us learn of possible medical conditions he may have had,” said Coroner Gary Ginn.
