LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Police tell LEX 18 that there was a shot fired during an altercation in the Fayette Mall parking lot Monday night.

The call came in around 7 p.m. about disorderly conduct with a possible shot fired near the mall.

Police say it appeared there were several subjects in some sort of argument in the parking lot, which continued to near the sidewalk where a shot was then fired.

Police say that one of the two people in custody has a hand injury. They are not sure if the injury is from a gunshot or the altercation.

“The earliest indications are that the subjects did have some prior knowledge of each other. This wasn’t two people that didn’t know each other prior to the encounter,” Lt. Nathaniel Muller.

Two people are now in custody.

“I heard a bunch of arguing, so I kind of looked over and there was a guy beside me with an earpiece. He said, ‘gun, get down!’ So, I look over and see this guy with a gun and phone in his hand. I’m shocked, I’m shaking,” said witness Summer Roe.

“I just got under a car, survival instincts. I saw he wasn’t shooting and wasn’t coming towards me, so I hid,” said witness Amber Rogers.

Fayette Mall released the following statement, “We are aware of an incident that took place in the parking lot. Lexington Police Department responded immediately and are on site investigating. The mall is operating as normal and there is no threat.”
