PIKEVILLE, Ky. (EKB News) — Officials at the Pike County Detention Center have confirmed the facility’s first case of Hepatitis A.

EKB News reports that jailer Brian Morris says the center already had instituted strict new screen protocols based on the outbreak across the region.

However, with nearly 400 inmates, Morris said, the task of keeping the infection out of the facility is daunting.

Officials said the male inmate was quarantined and authorities are investigating who might have come into contact with him.

Morris said anyone identified as being in contact with the infected inmate will be vaccinated. He said all employee of the detention center already have been vaccinated.

Pike County Health Department say the total number of cases reported to them since the statewide outbreak began remains under 15.
