FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (LEX 18) — A soldier’s spouse is in custody after the soldier was shot dead Sunday on the grounds of the army post.

Authorities said the names of the people involved were not being released yet, pending notification of family members.

The fatal shooting occurred about 10 p.m. and resulted in Fort Campbell being locked down, with all gates closed, for about an hour while military police investigated the case.

“Our hearts and prayers are with the Families involved. Any loss of a Soldier has a profound impact on the entire Army Family,” Brig. Gen. K. Todd Royar, acting senior commander, 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell, said in a statement.

Royar added that normal procedures were followed after the shooting.

“Our priority remains the safety and security of our Soldiers, their Family members and our civilian personnel,” Royar said.

Officials said the slaying was being investigated by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command and FBI.
