LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Thursday marked the annual chance for special kids and their families to enjoy a Lexington thoroughbred tradition.

It was the 11th annual “Make-A-Wish Day” at Keeneland

“Wish” children and their families are treated to a VIP day at the races. This includes a lunch, a chance to meet the jockeys in the paddock, watching their sponsor’s race from the Winner’s Circle, and presenting a trophy to the winners after each race.

Some of the wishes granted were a trip to Italy and a trip to Florida.

John Rogers was in high school in Paris, Kentucky when he was diagnosed with cancer. His family supported him through every round of chemo, and now the family looks forward to going to Italy.

Paige is three-years-old and has battled Neuroblastoma. She is excited to go to Florida.

“She’s doing great. It’s in remission. Still has a tumor they can’t resect, but no growth,” her dad, Justin Himes, said.
