WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (LEX 18) – Williamsburg Police are investigating numerous debit card fraud cases after a skimmer was discovered at a point of sale.

According to police, approximately 100 victims reported fraudulent transactions on their debit cards. Investigators have determined thieves used a point of sales skimmer device that can be easily placed over the existing point of sales machine.

The device captures the card information along with your pin number once the card is swiped.

WPD believes the skimmer device is the work of a larger organization that targets local businesses along major interstates and the organization is now operating in Kentucky. WPD is currently reviewing hours of video footage to determine when the device was placed and the possible identity of the suspect or suspects involved.

Police did not identify the business in which the skimmer was found.
