LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– The murder trial for four suspects charged in the 2016 death of Trinity Gay is underway.
Trinity is the daughter of track and field Olympian Tyson Gay. In court, jurors heard about the night Trinity’s family learned she was dead.
The 15-year-old was fatally shot in the neck while bullets were flying in the Cookout parking lot almost two years ago. Police say the four men were firing shots at each other from their cars when a stray bullet hit her.
40-year-old Chazerae Me’Lon Taylor Sr. is charged with murder. His 21-year-old son D’Markeo Taylor is charged with wanton endangerment in connection with the shooting.
22-year-old Lamonte Williams and 23-year-old D’Vonta Middlebrooks are also charged with wanton endangerment.
So far, Trinity’s mother has already appeared on the stand to testify about the night that her daughter was killed. She received a phone call telling her that someone had been shot. She went into her daughter’s room and found out she was gone.
Tyson Gay was in the courtroom and was shaken. He was emotional as Trinity’s mother testified that Trinity wanted to win a gold medal for her Olympian dad.
The trial will resume at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
