LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Police have been looking for a thief since a car break-in at the YMCA in Hamburg.

It happened on Aug. 3.

“He got her credit cards, everything inside her purse and drove immediately over to Target in Hamburg and was running up her credit cards to the tune of $4,000,” said Detective Mark Thomas with the Lexington Police Department.

Thomas suggests if you don’t need to bring a purse with you, don’t. If you do bring a purse, lock it up in the trunk.

He said that people prey on gym facility parking lots, knowing people opt to leave valuables rather than getting a locker.

“They will specifically wait and go to these locations,” Thomas said.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information leading to an arrest. Call the anonymous Crime Stoppers tip line at 859-253-2020. You can send a text message to ‘CRIMES’, just include ‘LEX P-D’ and your tip in the message.
