WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – Kentucky State Police have identified the man they say was killed during an officer-involved shooting.

Troopers say that 29-year-old Ronald Leach was shot dead after an apparent hostage situation.

The call came in around 1:20 a.m. Monday.

Kentucky State Police say the call came in as a domestic situation between a couple involving their child.

The female called KSP saying that Leach was threatening to cut the child with a box cutter inside of his car.

When the trooper arrived at the house, the car was empty. He had apparently barricaded himself in the house with the child.

A trooper found a way inside the home, and the man grabbed an unidentified weapon.

He reportedly went to attack the officer, so the trooper drew his gun and shot him.

The trooper, mother, and child were all unharmed during the incident.
