LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Police arrested a man with DUI and drug possession after an early morning crash on New Circle Road left one person dead.
Authorities say 33-year-old Dean Carson could face further charges after the crash that occurred about 11:45 p.m. on the city’s east side.
Officials said Carson was driving a sport-utility vehicle when he crashed from behind into a car that was stopped at a red light.
Police said the person in the stopped vehicle was killed. The victim’s identity was not immediately disclosed.
Carson was treated for minor injuries at an area hospital and released into custody. A passenger in the SUV was not injured, authorities said.
Police said the believed speed was a factor in the crash.
Carson was charged with driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance. He was being held in the Fayette County Detention Center.
