LINCOLN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) The Lincoln County Sheriff tells LEX 18 that fire department’s use of drones helped locate marijuana that had been planted in a corn field.

Sheriff Curt Folger said he was acting on a tip from the property’s owner and knew that there was a lot of ground to cover, so he went across the street and asked for a favor.

The fire department’s drones helped located the marijuana in minutes.

There are FAA requirements for drone usage and Chief Scott Maples and his staff have met those requirements.

Folger also says that the drones help in fires, search and rescues, and when searching for subjects that flee.

“You don’t have to have a warrant because it’s considered open fields,” he said.
