LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Lexington police are looking for two people who were caught on camera smashing a car window and stealing several valuables.

It happened outside the bank on West Vine, and police say that it happened because the perpetrators knew exactly what to look for.

“In this area of downtown Lexington, we have a lot of vagrants that move from the library area downtown to the courthouses, and they kind of make their rounds through here at night,” said Detective Mark Thomas with the Lexington Police Department.

Police are hopeful that surveillance images will lead to a positive identification.

“Smashing a window is not quiet,” said Thomas. “They’re going to draw some attention.”

Thomas said it only takes about 30 seconds to become a statistic and around the same amount of time to hide your valuables to avoid becoming one.
