LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Lexington Police announced Saturday morning that a man has been arrested in connection to a 2017 shooting death.

Authorities say 40-year-old Lawrence Westbrook III has been charged in the slaying of 39-year-old Rachel Preston.

Preston was shot to death the day after Christmas of 2017. Police found her body in the 5900 block of Tates Creek Road.

Family told LEX 18 at the time that Preston had been staying in the Tates Creek Estates Trailer Park nearby.

“Hearing about it, it was awful it was just awful. The poor lady she didn’t deserve that,” said one neighbor on Saturday.

Lexington Police did not say what led to Westbrook’s arrest in the case.

In addition to the murder charge, Westbrook also faces “several narcotics-related offenses,” officials said.

Westbrook was being held in the Fayette County Detention Center.
