LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Police were investigating after someone shot into the front door of a gas station on the west side early Saturday morning.

Authorities say the shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. at the Speedway at Versailles Road and Alexandria Drive.

Lexington police said they recovered 12 shell casings. Officials said they believe the shooting most likely was targeting a customer in front of the store.

One bullet went through the front window, and two more hit the clerk’s vehicle.

Police said they do not have a suspect in the case.

The gunman was believed to have fled in a maroon Monte Carlo.

About 15 minutes later, police received a call of a man with a gunshot wound outside a tobacco store on North Broadway.

The victim told police he had been shot a few blocks away, on Dakota Street.

Police canvassed the area but did not find any witnesses.

Police are investigating whether the two shooting incidents are related.
