LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — There will be a special graduation celebration to honor the University of Kentucky's class of 2020.
The University says its student-run radio station WRFL 88.1 FM will broadcast the names of May and August graduates over a span of a week beginning Sunday.
The week will end with a speech by UK President Eli Capilouto on May 9.
Students will be able to hear their name on the radio.
"I think a lot of times with how many people are at UK we kind of get lumped in together, so having that time and hearing your own name and having that recognition is kind of nice," graduating senior Sarah Cox said.
"I hope that those students, their families, and anyone else that's hearing this knows that we support you and we're rooting for you every step of the way, and we're so proud to be a part of this University and get to do something like this for them," WRFL general manager, Allison Pin, said.
This event doesn't take the place of an in-person commencement ceremony.
"It'll be finally kind of a sense of recognition and, in a way, a sense of closure that I needed to take a moment and feel proud of myself, and have that a moment to hear my friends' names and be proud of them and reflect back on the last four years that we've had together," Cox said.
The University says more details on that will be made available in the coming weeks.
