FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) — During his Wednesday press conference, Gov. Andy Beshear announced 1,346 new cases of COVID-19.
Outside of a day where over2,000 new cases were reported due to a backlog of cases, Wednesday's report marked the highest single day number of cases of COVID-19 in Kentucky since the pandemic began. The 1,346 new cases brings Kentucky's COVID-19 case total to 83,013.
"There is no backlog in that," Gov. Beshear said. "That is today's numbers. Those are recent tests. It is in an indication that right now, at least we're finding more virus out there and there is probably more virus out there, than any time to date in our dealing with this pandemic."
Of the new cases, 171 involve Kentuckians that are 18 or younger.
Gov. Beshear also announced seven new coronavirus-related deaths, including a 49-year-old woman from Fayette County, bringing Kentucky's coronavirus-related death total to 1,276.
