LEX 18 — The Scott Co. Detention Center will be locked down for the next two weeks due to the spread of COVID-19 in its facility.
Jailer Derran Broyles released the following statement on Facebook Sunday:
Despite our tireless efforts over the last several months to keep Covid-19 out of our jail, in the last several days we have experienced multiple confirmed cases of it at SCDC. We knew all along that it was going to be nearly impossible to keep out. I have initiated numerous additional protocols for our jail regarding this outbreak including the quarantining of infected inmates and those inmates exposed to but not yet showing symptoms, from other inmates at our jail. Due to this action, we have no additional safe space for any new arrests. Therefore, I have also chosen to lockdown our facility for two weeks from accepting any new arrests. This is for the protection and safety of those being arrested as well as our facility. I have arranged for those that are arrested in Scott county during this time period to be taken to another nearby county jail. Myself, and our staff will continue to work hard and take every precaution necessary to ensure the safety and well being of our inmates, our staff and you, our community. We appreciate your continued support and prayers.
