NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) — Another Kentucky fair will not take place this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Jessamine County Fair Association Board of Directors has announced the Jessamine County Fair will not happen this year after a meeting earlier this week.
"The Board decided the best way to protect the health and welfare of our community is to cancel the fair for 2020," the Board wrote in a news release. "In the end, the Board felt that we could not sufficiently safeguard the health of the public and our own volunteers, which made this decision an obvious if not necessarily easy one."
The 2020 fair, held every year in Nicholasville, was scheduled for July 6 through 11. Attendance at the 2019 fair was 12,634, contributing more than $100,000 to the local economy.
Earlier this week, leaders with both the Madison County Fair and the Franklin County Fair announced their fairs would also be canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
