LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — The University of Kentucky said Tuesday that it is launching a new initiative that will provide all incoming freshmen with iPads.
UK officials said the UK Board of Trustees on Tuesday approved initial steps to use $1.5 million as part of its Smart Campus digital strategy.
“We know students’ persistence is impacted by health and wellness, financial stability, academic preparation and belonging,” UK President Eli Capilouto said. “Through leveraging the power of technology, we can address these obstacles across multiple platforms with a cutting-edge digital suite of tools — beginning with providing iPad to incoming students.”
Once goal of the program is to “create a level playing field with technology for all students.”
The program will be rolling out this summer with about 700 students participating in transition programs, officials said.
