Man Pleads Not Guilty In Lexington Shooting Death

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A man who Lexington police say fatally shot another man Saturday night at a north side apartment complex pleaded not guilty Tuesday to the charges.

DeMarcus D. Jones, 25, appeared in Fayette District Court to face a charge of murder. He is due back in court April 24 for a preliminary hearing.

Police accused Jones in the fatal shooting that occurred around 10:30 p.m. Saturday at Coolavin Apartments on West Sixth Street.

Authorities say 24-year-old Aaron Coney was shot in the upper body. He was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead early Sunday morning.

Police arrested Jones on Monday morning during a traffic stop at the Tates Creek Centre.

Jones is charged with murder and has been lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center.
