LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)- President Donald Trump’s Drug Czar made a stop in Lexington this afternoon while touring the state to discuss drug addiction and recovery.

After touting border wall security alongside Senator Mitch McConnell on Monday, Jim Carroll made an appearance at DV-8 Kitchen, a restaurant that employs people recovering from substance abuse.

Carroll and Governor Matt Bevin touted second chances.

“Seeing their commitment to having a new life because of what Rob and his wife are doing has just been key. It was worth it to just come to the restaurant,” said Carroll.

DV8 Kitchen has garnered national attention for how it employs people recovering from substance abuse and addiction. Both Carroll and Governor Matt Bevin spoke highly of the practice after a discussion with employees and owners Rob and Diane Perez.

“We have no problem with people not only enforcing the laws of this country, but we also want to make sure we’re being mindful that when someone is ready to recover, there’s a place for them,” Rob Perez told LEX 18.

Carroll also praised Governor Bevin on programs his administration oversees, such as FindHelpNowKy.Org. Carroll says he’d like to see more programs like it on a national level.
