LEWIS COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) —Three people are behind bars after investigators say they kidnapped two children from the Vanceburg area and took them to Mexico.

The Lewis County Herald reports the alleged kidnapping happened in early February.

The initial investigation by Vanceburg Police tracked the suspects to Laredo, Texas where they crossed the border.

Kristy Carrington, 30, and Jay D. Thompson, 29, both from Vanceburg, were caught trying to cross back in to the United States. Victor Carrington, 39, also from Vanceburg, turned himself in a few days later. Authorities say the children were with him. He also faces several sexual abuse charges from a 2017 case.

The FBI escorted the three back to Kentucky, and were booked in to the Lewis County Detention Center on March 4.

No bonds have been set for the three.

The children are safe and back in Kentucky.
