SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) – It was an unusual start to Sunday service for the congregation of Shelbyville Wesleyan Church. About an hour before the service began, the side of the church gave way, leaving a pile of bricks and debris.

“It kind of sounded like a big tree fell down,” said Beth Kraft. “We looked out the windows, cause we were like what in the world, and there was this a huge cloud of dust and debris and stuff flying everywhere.”

That’s when the magnitude of what really happened started to sink in. Part of Shelbyville Wesleyan Church had fallen off. A building inspector had told them previously that they should block off their back entrance after a crack was spotted in the foundation.

” I can’t even express the blessing that it is that we knew and we were able to block it off ahead of time cause otherwise there would have been no chance to anything that was down there especially if someone was down there at that time.,” said Associate Pastor Christian Clour.

That crack combined with heavy winds were too much for the 24-year-old building.
