LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– An officer was taken to the hospital after responding to a burglary alarm in Lexington on Sunday evening.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Constitution Street.
Reportedly two officers found a point of entry and went inside to clear the building.
Police say when the officers entered they were ambushed and attacked by a man. One of the officers was hit in the face and suffered unknown injuries.
Police tell us the officer was taken to the hospital, but was treated and released shortly after.
A police spokesperson said a weapon was used in the attack, but would not specify what the officer was hit with.
The suspect was identified as Kevin Blankenship. He is facing several charges including assault on a police officer.
