Enjoy the brief break in the action Friday with cloudy skies, highs in the low 40s and patchy morning drizzle & fog. A significant winter storm is set to hammer the Ohio Valley northeast into New England this weekend. Expect heavy rain (thunder southeast) Friday night into Saturday with a soggy 1″-2″ coming down. The temperature will plummet Saturday night as Arctic air invades. With such a fast freeze roads may become icy and slick. We’ll top it off Sunday with 1″-3″ of snow as the system departs. Expect a winter weather advisory and an elevated threat index later this weekend. Beyond that? Bitter cold (single digit lows) and a wicked wind chill (subzero) Sunday night into MLK Jr. Day morning.
