(LEX 18) — Greg Stumbo, a former Kentucky attorney general and Speaker of the House of Representatives, confirmed Friday to LEX 18 that he plans to run again for attorney general in 2019.
Stumbo, a Democrat who currently is an attorney with Morgan and Morgan, tells LEX 18 that — barring something unforeseen — he will formally announce his candidacy in the new year.
Stumbo said that he hopes to continue the fight against the commonwealth’s opioid epidemic, which has been a priority of current Attorney General Andy Beshear.
Beshear is running for governor next year.
Stumbo previously served as Kentucky attorney general from 2004 to 2008.
Whitney Westerfield, a Kentucky state senator and attorney from Hopkinsville, says he has filed the paperwork to run for attorney general on the Republican ticket.
