(LEX 18) — With a messy, icy storm system moving into the southern portion of the commonwealth on Saturday, electricity utility companies were beginning to report some weather-related outages.
Kentucky Utilities was reporting more than 2,220 of its customers in the Somerset area were without power around 1:15 p.m.
The South Kentucky Regional Electric Cooperative Corp. said more than 600 customers were without power as of about 1:15 p.m.
Around the same time, Jackson Power was reported about the same number of customers that it serves were cut off from electricity.
Officials said ice was causing tree limbs to break and damage power lines. The public was advised to stay clear of any downed lines and to notify the utility and local emergency crews.
Outage maps show the latest numbers being reported by SKRECC, Jackson Energy and Kentucky Utilities.
