LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – Saturday’s rain made for a record-setting day in Lexington.

Now 2018 has become the wettest year in Lexington history. So far, 66.97 inches of rain have fallen in 2018, as of 8 p.m. Saturday, surpassing rainfall totals in 2011 to break the record.

The morning rain pushed 2018 into record-breaking territory, and then a round of thunderstorms in the evening kept the number climbing higher. It also caught many by surprise.

“We’re thinking about Christmas shopping and we’re thinking about that and then this big thunderstorm comes up so that was pretty shocking today,” said Tracey Bussell of Lexington.

Many say they’re hoping for a dry month to end 2018.
