LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Several units have been evacuated after an apartment fire in Lexington.
Officials were called to Park Place Apartments on Tates Creek Road around 5:15 a.m. for reports of smoke coming from a building.
Crews say a fire started in one of the units, however the resident was not home at the time.
A neighbor in an upstairs unit smelled the smoke and had her husband check where it was coming from. The couple called 911 and officials were reportedly on scene within two to three minutes.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
Red Cross is on scene.
The fire captain just told me if the neighbors did not call 911 and knock on their neighbors doors, there very well could have been lives lost as the fire would have spread. @LEX18News pic.twitter.com/MX2panQMHC
