WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (LEX18) – Police say a man who robbed a Corbin bank on Tuesday got away in a stolen car. The family who owns the car says the trunk was filled with Christmas gifts for their kids.

Jennifer Benge says her mother-in-law drivers their Chrysler to work and let a co-worker, who told her he was recently homeless, borrow the car to do errands. Never expecting something like this to happen.

“He told her he was going to the laundry mat, to do some laundry, it was really cold. So she told him to go ahead. And we ended up finding out that he robbed a bank,” Jennifer Benge said.

Corbin Police say Timothy Sample walked into the Hometown Bank, demanded money, showed the clerk a gun and then took off.

Leaving the family devastated because their kids’ Christmas gifts are in the trunk. “My son really loves Mine Craft so there was a lot of Mine Craft figurines and LEGO sets and things like that. And they aren’t cheap,” Benge said.
