The worst case scenarios for Hurricane Michael may be coming to pass. The storm is rapidly strengthening as it approaches the Florida panhandle tomorrow afternoon. We may be looking at a cat 4 storm with winds of 130 mph or more and 15 foot+ storm surge.
We discussed the potential earlier. The European model has been pretty much spot on which given its forecasted pressure means a devastating storm is likely.
The NWS office in Tallahassee put out a statement the some places may be uninhabitable for weeks or months. It also said new coastlines may be created. Hugo did that to one of the South Carolina barrier islands.
With the blog archives here you can trace the storm’s development from Sunday.
Michael is looking to be a historic storm. Hopefully everyone gets out of the way. If Hugo was any guide, that part of the Florida panhandle could look like a war zone Thursday morning.
Hope for the best for those that stayed behind.
