LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Local law enforcement is searching for the person they believe is responsible for stealing a vehicle and dumping it.

The car was stolen from a home on Bellefonte Drive near the UK football stadium. It was later dumped and eventually recovered in the Tates Creek Area.

Police are still looking for the thief, but think a woman, caught on cam at the Tates Creek Rite Aid, could be connected in some way.

She went inside the store, used her own cards to make her purchase, and then left. But in this case, her timing puts her in the area, when the vehicle was taken.

“When you start to have guys that steal cars, what we find is, they steal a lot of cars,” said Detective Mark Thomas. “You won’t have somebody that’ll steal just one, or two. Usually, when we catch these guys, we start tying them to, with either fingerprints or other ways of tying them to stolen vehicles, we will find that they will steal 30, 40, 50 over a short period of time.”

Thomas stressed that the suspect used her own credit cards, this is not a case of fraudulent use of credit cards.
