LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) – The publisher of a newspaper in Kentucky announced Wednesday that he will be stepping down.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports Rufus Friday says he will remain in his position as publisher of the Herald-Leader until Sept. 14. He will be pursuing other opportunities in the Lexington area after being the newspaper’s publisher since 2011.
Friday has been in the news business for more than 30 years. He has led the Herald-Leader through a time of challenges and digital transformation in the nation’s news media. In his time as publisher, the newspaper’s journalists have won numerous awards for excellence.
Editor Peter Baniak will move into an expanded role as the Herald-Leader’s editor and general manager. Baniak has served as the newspaper’s editor and vice-president since 2009.
