Lexington Police, Citizens Connect At Annual Community Cookout

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – On Saturday families from across Lexington got to connect with the city’s police officers in a different way.

Lexington Police, the Citizens Police Academy, and Parks and Recreation, co-hosted the annual community cookout.

The event was held at Charles Young Park Saturday afternoon allowing people to get together and have a good time on the weekend.

Along with food and games, organizers want to focus on reducing crime through unity and communication.

“We absolutely look for every opportunity we can for young people in our community to realize that we don’t just put people in jail, and that we’re humans just like they are.. and they can come up and talk to us and we are approachable,” said Commander Mike Wright.

Lexington Police say they get a lot of positive feedback from the event, and hope to keep it going for years to come.
