LEXINGTON, KY (July 13, 2018) – Sports and music will collide at Champions at Keene Trace when the Barbasol Championship Pro-Am is played next Wednesday. Former University of Kentucky men’s basketball coach Tubby Smith, country music star John Michael Montgomery, Kentucky Sports Radio founder Matt Jones and radio legend Rick Dees will be playing alongside a PGA TOUR pro as the celebrity team in the Pro-Am competition.

Our own Bill Meck will be there as well.

“Playing in a PGA TOUR event Pro-Am is an experience like no other in sports,” said Brooks Downing, Executive Director of the Barbasol Championship. “Our Pro-Am participants will each get to play alongside two PGA TOUR pros and the experience is simply priceless. We add in celebrities like Tubby, John Michael, Matt and Rick and it takes things to another level.”

A limited number of playing positions in the Pro-Am are still available and the package includes tickets to the Pairings Party at The Castle and awards party, as well as a premium shopping experience in the gift suite. Interested parties can contact the tournament headquarters at 859-469-8167.

Tournament organizers also announced special days for military and first responders, college students and state employees, as well as a host of on-course venues for spectators.

  • Commonwealth Credit Union is sponsoring “State Employee Day” on Saturday, July 21. For the entire tournament, the Frankfort-based credit union is providing complimentary tickets for kids 16-and-under. Admittance to the course will be provided at no charge when accompanied by an adult ticket holder (access to hospitality areas without the proper ticket/credential will not be permitted).
  • College Day is Friday, July 20 with grounds passes priced at $5 at the gate for current college students with a valid student ID.
  • Saturday, July 21 is UK’s See Blue Day with fans being encouraged to wear blue to the course on what is expected to be the largest crowd of the week.
  • The tournament previously announced that Heroes Day will be on Thursday, July 19 where all active duty and Reserve military members, military retirees and their dependents, as well as first responders, can enjoy complimentary tournament admission that day. Guests may obtain complimentary military tickets by visiting www.barbasolchampionshipky.com/tickets, having their military or first responder status verified, and then downloading a ticket voucher. The ticket vouchers must be presented at the gate along with a Department of Defense-issued ID or Photo ID for admission. A $1 verification fee will be charged for each ticket downloaded.  From Friday through Sunday, military members and first responders can receive a 20% discount on tickets with the same registration procedure required.

Once at Champions at Keene Trace, spectators will have a host of entertainment options. Located off #9, the Grey Goose 19th Hole features tremendous views while sipping on exclusive craft cocktails from Grey Goose Vodka. The Natty Shack, located off #11 green, is the site of the tournament’s “Birdies for 30” promotion, as every birdie tallied on that hole will reward rowdy spectators for 30 minutes with discounted Natural Light.
