LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Father Jim Sichko’s mission is to spread happiness through acts of kindness, and this Fourth of July he decided to help out Lexington firefighters.
"We expect them to be present for our needs, so why not be present for their needs?" Sichko told LEX 18.
After seeing Lexington firefighters shooting hoops outside a station, Sichko had an idea, he wanted to make sure all stations in town had a hoop of their own, a way to say thanks for everything they do.
"He called me up and wanted to donate to the stations that wanted them, and I couldn’t be happier," said Capt. Chris Bartley with the Lexington Fire Department.
On Wednesday, Sichko delivered five basketball goals and with them, five new ways to help the men and women of the Lexington Fire Department relax, have fun and bond.
"I’ve seen him on social media quite a bit, helping firefighters pay for their dinners and he’s a great person for the community and for the Lexington firefighters," said Bartley.
Sichko’s bigger mission is for the Catholic Church to spread kindness across the country. He hopes that this act of kindness will send ripples into the community.
