BOYLE CO, Ky. (LEX 18) — The Forkland Community Center was flooded with feet of water after heavy rain rolled through the area earlier this week, according to Board Member Jordan Hourigan.
The center, a former school, has been transformed to house several activities and showcase the history of the area, Hourigan said. Its biggest event of the year, the Forkland Heritage Festival, is coming up on Oct. 12-13.
"It’s kind of up in the air whether we’re going to be able to have that or not because we have to clean this up and have everything ready," Hourigan said.
The center was flooded back in 2010, he said, and repairs were covered by FEMA. The community center has insurance, he said, which will cover the cost of cleanup. But it won’t cover the cost to replace the items that were lost, he said, including several appliances.
"We’re just going to ask that people support the events that we have and be able to make an effort to attend those," he said.
Hourigan is hopeful that with the help of the community, the heritage festival can be held this year. Updates on the cleanup can found on the center’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/forklandcomctr/
